Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pair of ancient glass vessels comprising an unguentarium with a piriform body and corseted neck, and a tall jar with a broad, slightly flared rim. Unguentaria were used to hold scented oils or other precious liquids for a woman's toilette, with the slender neck helping to minimize evaporation. The invention of glassblowing in the Roman Empire around the end of the first century BCE revolutionized daily life, making glassware widely accessible. Roman households quickly transitioned from pottery to delicate glass, prized for its beauty and translucency. Size of large jar: 2.25" Diameter x 5.5" H (5.7 cm x 14 cm).
