Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A forged-iron spear tip with a tapered socketing shaft, a sturdy neck, and a diamond-shaped blade bearing a pointed tip. Spear tips like this could be used as a stationary weapon - like a guard defending a passageway - or as a throwing weapon like a javelin.
