Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE; Western Europe, probably England or France, Neoclassical Period, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful carnelian stone intaglio set in a Victorian era gold tie or lapel pin. The ancient intaglio depicts two standing winged figures, perhaps Victory, Mars, and/or Minerva, the gods associated with warfare and triumph- one holds a spear and the other is crowning a small figure, perhaps an emperor standing upon a shield in the center. The pin is in excellent condition and could be worn today as intended and the pin comes with an end cap and vintage velvet case. Size: 2.75" L x 0.5" Diameter (7 cm x 1.3 cm); gold quality: 66% to 79.36% (equivalent to 16K to 19K+); weight: 3.1 grams
