Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely collection of 5 Roman bronzes: 2 pins, 2 lion head attachments, and an S hook of serpentine form that was likely used as a clasp. One of the pins is capped with a closed left hand, while the other boasts a finial in the form of a horse. The lion heads were important symbols in ancient Rome as they represented bravery, courage, and fortitude. Size of largest (pin with hand finial): 0.5" W x 4.5" H (1.3 cm x 11.4 cm)

  • Condition: One of the lion heads is a fragment of a larger piece and the pins have possible losses to finials, but other lion head and S hook are intact. Otherwise, all are in good condition with expected surface wear and liberal remaining detail. Nice patina throughout.
