Description:

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A charming bronze figurine of a goat shown in stride with a carefully striated coat and prominent horns and beard. Goat statuary in the classical world, especially in early Imperial Rome, was associated with the god Bacchus (Dionysus), god of wine and nature, and with the revels of the satyrs. Some of the most famous depictions of these animals come from Hadrian's villa near modern-day Tivoli. A verdant green patina envelops the adorable animal, imbuing the piece with aura of elegance, reminiscent of ancient Rome! Size: 1.8" W x 1.6" H (4.6 cm x 4.1 cm)
