Europe, United Kingdom, Victorian Period, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful neo-classically styled cameo brooch pendant, made of 18 karat gold with the cameo, made of lovely black and white sardonyx, inlaid into the metal. The cameo features the profile head of a woman who is a combination of Medusa, with a snake emerging from the front of her hair and writhing snakes wrapped around her neck, and a harpy, with wings on either side of her face. Her eyes are downcast, her features serious. The gold pendant has an elegant, ornate openwork design on its sides. Size: 1.85" W x 1.75" H (4.7 cm x 4.4 cm); length of modern cord: 20" L (50.8 cm)
