Description:

North America, United States, ca. 19th century CE. A fine muzzle-loading percussion rifle with a wooden stock and steel barrel. The barrel is octagonal with a grooved .40 caliber bore hole, and the ramrod fits into the two guides under the barrel. The name "C.W. JUDD" is stamped after the notched site, for an unknown maker. The lock plate is stamped "SHELDON" and engraved with foliate and duck motifs around the hammer. A brass trigger guard and brass butt cap complete this handsome weapon. Size: 46" L x 4" W (116.8 cm x 10.2 cm); bore: 0.4" W (1 cm)

  • Condition: Loss to wood stock along barrel and below hammer. Stable fissures to wood along barrel before the lock plate. Wear and abrasions to wood and metal areas. Ramrod is not original and cannot be easily removed. Markings are clear. Hammer and trigger both articulate. Gun has not been tested for firing functionality .
