Description:

North America, United States, Pennsylvania, Lancaster, ca. 1840s to 1860s CE. A lovely rifle with an octagonal steel barrel with no rifling marks on the interior. The hand-carved wooden stock has a bulky back stock with a brass butt liner, a protruding chin rest, several brass studs for increased grip and aesthetic presentation, and a lower slot meant to hold the accompanying ram rod. The lock plate has a thick hammer that falls atop a percussion cap pin and is stamped "LEMAN LANCTR.PA" and a double trigger is surrounded by a brass trigger guard. The octagonal steel barrel has a forked sight near the midpoint as well as no interior rifling grooves. Size (w/ stock): 38.5" L (97.8 cm); (barrel): 22.7" L (57.7 cm); (bore): 0.425" W (1.1 cm)

  • Condition: Repairs to areas of stock with some in-fill material. One stud on stock as well as one pin on lock plate missing. Abrasions to barrel, stock, triggers, guard, and ram rod, with encrustations within barrel, and minor nicks to some wooden components. Nice patina throughout. Hammer will not cock back unless back trigger is first pulled. Rifle has not been tested for firing functionality.
