North America, USA, ca. post-1865 CE. A Grand Army of the Republic infantry cap, with a black silk body and a black leather bill. The interior lining is also silk, with the maker's stamp on the inside, reading "M C Lilley & Co Manufacturers of Military and Society Goods Columbus Ohio" (this logo is partially worn away). It has a leather sweatband, brass buttons with the USA coat of arms, and brass-colored stitching on its front depicting a wreath and reading "344 SV". M. C. Lilley, founded in 1865, made uniforms for the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization for Union veterans of the Civil War. Size: 6.25" W x 3.25" H (15.9 cm x 8.3 cm)

  • Condition: The cap has wear commensurate with age and fairly extensive use. The exterior is in generally nice condition, while the interior has lost some fabric and has loose stitching throughout. The leather sweatband is torn in places.
