North America, Pacific Northwest, United States or Canada, Tlingit, ca. late 19th to 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden hat finial that perhaps adorned a woven clan hat during ceremonies. The finial perhaps represents the dorsal fin of an orca whale with teal, red, yellow, and brown pigments made from natural materials and dyes. Both eyes and 2 teeth are comprised of inlaid mother-of-pearl that creates a glaring opalescence that is sure to amaze. Size (mask): 2.625" L x 1.5" W x 6.2" H (6.7 cm x 3.8 cm x 15.7 cm); (display case): 2.375" L x 8.875" W x 10.9" H (6 cm x 22.5 cm x 27.7 cm)
