Description:

Central Asia, Tibet or Mongolia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A two-headed drum, known as a damaru (damru), made from wood dyed green skin. The silk textile handle is ornate and embroidered with auspicious Buddhist symbols, free flowing tassels, and side panels attached via silver beads. Coral, carved stone, and inlaid silver prayer wheel charms are strung to the connecting cotton strap and silver dorje appliques are sewn to around the drum. Cotton cords with a brass pellet balls would hit either skin face as the drum was shaken. The damaru is used in both Tibetan Tantric Buddhist and Hindu practices. Size: 3.75" Diameter x 3" H (9.5 cm x 7.6 cm)
