Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A vibrant hand-painted thangka on canvas or cotton textile, framed in modern times under glass. The scene is a wrathful deity (a protector of Dharma) in an embrace with other demons to the sides and a Boddhisatva above. Thangka serve as teaching tools, but also as focal points for devotion when brought out during a ritual. They also can be used for meditation, allowing the viewer to focus on the scene at hand and put away earthly distractions. Size of thangka: 23.75" L x 17" W (60.3 cm x 43.2 cm); frame: 26.5" L x 19.75" W (67.3 cm x 50.2 cm)
