Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A fine monastery seal constructed from 80% to 90% silver with a stylized panel of incised Tibetan characters on the base. The spool-shaped lower body is covered with engraved curvilinear motifs interrupted with abstract anthropomorphs on the bottom as well as an amphora, a conch shell, a curvilinear knot, and a large flower along the upper half. The handle portion is adorned with dense foliate motifs that course across the surfaces, and several inset turquoise and coral fragments line the upper handle periphery as well as the middle of the lower body. An attractive example of religious Tibetan artistry! Size: 2.125" W x 6.2" H (5.4 cm x 15.7 cm); quality of silver: 80% to 90%; total weight: 243.4 grams.
