Description:

**Originally Listed At $650**

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A fabulous cast silver, disc-like medallion, its face covered in ornate relief motifs. An outer ring features columns and serpents inside a thick border; a similarly thick border separates it from the interior center. This features a dragon, its head near the raised center of the convex disc, its body surrounded by clouds. The dragon is one of the Four Dignities, mythical animals that represent powerful concepts in Buddhism. The dragon is associated with the element of water, and with power. Dragons thunder in the sky with the sound of compassion. They are frequently invisible, but may choose to reveal themselves at auspicious moments. Size: 2.95" W (7.5 cm); 69.9 grams
