Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-built fire-starting pouch known as a chuckmuck with a frontal leather flap lined with intricately engraved iron panels. The center of the flap is adorned with a coral disc inlaid within a brass setting. The interior of the pouch once held a flint fragment to strike against the steel underside. On top is an iron loop and ring with a leather strap that facilitates the portability of the chuckmuck. Size: 4.75" W x 3.1" H (12.1 cm x 7.9 cm)

  • Condition: Slight bending to overall form of front flap and leather strap, with abrasions and nicks to leather, silver, and coral components, and desiccation to leather commensurate with age, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina to brass and silver areas.
