Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A gorgeous gold and silver hair ornament and talisman case, known as a ghau, inlaid with turquoise stones. The gold is of high quality, ranging from 79% to 81% purity (equivalent to 19K+). The verso features a removable sterling silver cover, revealing an interior compartment that could store paper prayers or other relics. The main part of the pendant is octagonal with a beaded border, the gold is expertly worked with filigree and form-fitting bezels for each stone. Above, there is a tubular suspension loop adorned with 4 stones, and below is a smaller suspension loop with a pair of arms and conical finials. Size: 1.65" L x 1.19" W (4.2 cm x 3 cm); metal quality: 79% to 81% (equivalent to 19K+) gold, 92% to 93% silver; weight: 24.7 grams.

  • Condition: Repaired, lower projecting arms and inlaid stones are covered in a clear adhesive, the small loop is reattached and this area is misshapen with indentations and a perforation. Adhesive has stabilized this area. Missing a stone inlay on one side. Verso silver lid is removable and a modern printed paper mandala illustration is included inside. Wearable!
