Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful ceremonial vessel cast from silver with chased and repousse motifs capped by a fitted lid with a raised knob handle. The lid contains a register of symbols and animals which are gilt in 27% (6K+) gold! The body of the vessel has 8 auspicious Buddhist symbols cast into four low relief frames: the parasol, fish, conch, victory banner, knot of eternity, lotus, treasure vase, and the dharma wheel. Such ornate vessels are often used in various ceremonies, including house blessings, consecrations of sacred spaces, and other rituals and are often placed on altars or in important areas of homes, monasteries, and temples as a symbol of spiritual abundance and protection.
