A gilt copper panel repoussé decorated with a detailed scene of the wrathful tantric deity known as Mahakala in a frightening form: fanged mouth, wild eyes, flaming hair, dressed in skulls, and a snake around his waist, and in his 6 arms he holds implements including a cult knife and a skull bowl filled with blood. Mahakala is known as the "Great Black One" or "Great Time, and time is believed to be the destroyer of all things and is therefore symbolically associated with death. Size: 15" L x 11.5" W (38.1 cm x 29.2 cm)
