Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A repousse copper plaque of Yamantaka, the Lord of Death in Vajrayana Buddhism, standing in a dramatic pose with his hands spread wide, facing forward, almost like he is surfing. Yamantaka has the face of a buffalo, and his fearsome, flaming headdress flies out behind his two large horns, which have three small human skulls between them. Although Yamantaka seems fierce and devilish, he is also compassionate, seen as turning his wrath against the forces of anger, hate, and death that work against humanity. Size: 14" L x 11.25" W (35.6 cm x 28.6 cm)
