Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A cast bronze boss-like buckle from a horse saddle, with an engraved pattern of flowers on an interlaced metal symbol that recalls the Kalachakra, the "wheel of time," an important concept for teaching and practice in Tibetan Buddhism. The openwork, interlaced bars are set within a broad border that rolls upward at its outer edge. Applied to the back of the buckle are two strips for attachment. Size: 3.7" W (9.4 cm)
