Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Rattanakosin period, ca. 19th century CE. An ornate, heavy, cast silver statue of the Buddha, ornately clothed in finery. Flames rise from his shoulders and legs, mirroring the shape of his ears. One hand is raised in blessing, the other curled into a fist as if it once held something. A massive, pointed ushnisha rises from the head. The face is serene, the eyes almost closed. The figure stands atop a small, square, tiered pedestal whose smooth form is in strong contrast to the details of the rest of the figure. This sculpture is a quintessential example of the Ratanakosin style with its flame-like motifs emerging from the shoulders and ears of the crown and a beautiful, heavily decorated costume. Size: 4.25" H (10.8 cm); 91.9 grams
