Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Southeast Asia, Thailand or Burma / Myanmar, ca. 19th century CE. A bronze right hand from a statue of the Buddha, the thumb and index pressed together. This graceful hand displays a flat palm and lengthy, slender fingers forming a vitarka mudra. The vitarka mudra is the mudra of "discussion", indicating transmission of Buddhist teaching. The circle formed by the finger and thumb symbolizes the constant flow of information and energy. This is most commonly done with the right hand (as this one here). In the palm is raised rossette chakra . Buddhist hand symbols are often presented in specific styles to represent different aspects of Buddha and Buddhist values. The hollow casting enables the wrist opening to rest on a tenon upon the stand, this hand could also be mounted on a wall as an interesting piece of décor. Size: 5" L x 1.6" W x 2.5" H (12.7 cm x 4.1 cm x 6.4 cm); 3.5" H (8.9 cm) on included custom stand.
