North America / Western Europe, ca. 19th century CE. A petite steel bladed axe with a slender cutting blade and slightly curved spike or pick. The blade is mounted on a cherrywood handle, that is probably a later or modern addition. Possibly used as a naval boarding axe. Size: 14.75" L x 7" W (37.5 cm x 17.8 cm)

  • Condition: The socket rim on the top of the axe has a hairline fissure from mounting / pressure of the wood handle. Some nicks to blade edge. Dark patina and toning. This wood handle is not original and has the bark attached. Red ink "2" written on the iron and wood just below the socket.
