Description:

South America, Bolivia, ca. 19th century CE. A hammered silver bowl used in Bolivian wedding celebrations, with a beautiful finely-incised pattern of cube-like squares in a register around the rim. On opposite sides from each other on the bowl's rim are two spouts; they connect to a central spout and allow the newlyweds to drink from the same bowl. At ninety degree angles from each spout are matching cast silver birds that look like peacocks - long tails and crests on top of their heads give them a regal appearance. Size: 7.65" L x 6" W x 3.5" H (19.4 cm x 15.2 cm x 8.9 cm) (334.5 g)
