Description:

Latin America, Mexico or Southwestern United States, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 19th century CE. This is an intimidating iron and wood hunting or butchering knife with a large blade and wooden grip. The forged-iron blade bears a thick spine and a sharpened, curved edge along the clip point - much like a Bowie knife. The Bowie knife was based on this type of large Spanish hunting or butchering blade style. The thick tang is covered with two polished wooden panels with a rounded butt end, both pieces riveted in place. The surface of the iron shows great age, and the grip is smooth from use. Size (knife): 14.5" L x 1.75" W (36.8 cm x 4.4 cm); (blade): 9.75" L x 1.75" W (24.8 cm x 4.4 cm)
