Description:

Latin America or Philippines, Spanish Colonial culture, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A charming piece of Folk Art - a fascinating processional finial comprised of a brass cross set on an iron socketing shaft. The cross features crucified Christ on one side and a man holding a zoomorph with the head of a dog or lamb and tail of a fish on the other. The side with Christ is inscribed "Senor de la Agonia" or "Lord of Agony," while the opposite side reads "Fundador Pascual Charla [sic] San Isidro." This may have been formed from a military badge set on a socketing shaft, possibly from a spear tip. Size: 4.3" W x 10.6" H (10.9 cm x 26.9 cm)
