Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand or Cambodia, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A finely carved wooden coconut grater in the form of a charming rabbit. The recumbent mammal has four legs tucked beneath the stocky body, a rigid back, a perky tail on the posterior, and a pair of floppy ears draped atop the shoulder blades. The circular head protrudes from the thick neck and features rounded cheeks, hemispherical blue glass eyes, and a tapered mouth with a serrated iron grating tool projecting from the front. Hundreds of thin striations across the composition imbue the animal with a furry presentation, and traces of red pigment are visible across all surfaces. Size: 20.25" L x 6.5" W x 11" H (51.4 cm x 16.5 cm x 27.9 cm).
