South Pacific, Polynesia, Solomon Islands, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved nacre (mother-of-pearl) fishhook of an ovoid form with a slender body and a chevron-shaped top finial. Attached to the bottom of the body with twisted thread is an upturned hook carved from turtle shell exhibiting lovely orange and brown hues. Size: 0.5" L x 2.6" W x 2.625" H (1.3 cm x 6.6 cm x 6.7 cm).
