Description:

Native American, Western United States, Plains Tribes, Sioux, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand carved bovine horn spoon and a spatulate tool made from ungulate bone. The spoon is possibly bison, cattle, or even bighorn sheep horn - steamed until soft then molded to create the incurved shape and carved to form a slender handle that is covered with cloth and beading. The glass seed beads are powder blue, black, and white, adorning both handle and a tassel with a tin sheet and red hair bristles. The spatulate bone is probably from a deer or elk leg- hollowed along one to work and scrape hides, a tool sometimes known as a beamer or flesher. Size (bone scraper): 6" L x 1.5" W (15.2 cm x 3.8 cm)
