Eastern Europe/Western Asia, South Caucasus region, Azerbaijan, Shahsavan tribe, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful rectangular textile panel used for an infant's cradle that is woven from animal hair in the sturdy flat-weave technique known as soumak (also soumakh, sumac, or soumac). The interior designs feature eye-catching geometric and wave-form motifs with abstract anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures within the central panel. Size: 41.25" L x 21.75" W (104.8 cm x 55.2 cm)

  • Condition: Old repair using patch from another textile. Four small holes, one with repair stitches. Minor fraying to some interior and peripheral threads, with light staining and fading to areas of original color, and minor creasing. Great remains of original coloration throughout.
