Native American, North America, New Mexico, Santo Domingo Pueblo, ca. mid-19th century CE. A fine example of a long pistol with a hand-carved wooden stock of an unusual form. The thick backstock has a bulbous handle with a slender trigger beneath, and above is a tall hammer that articulates behind a petite percussion firing pin. The cylindrical iron barrel is secured to the forestock via a thin strip of iron, and a slender ram rod is stored in a thin housing beneath. Minor nicks and abrasions to hammer, stock, and barrel, with slight bending to ram rod, and light encrustations within some recessed areas. Hammer does not articulate all the way back. Pistol has not been tested for firing functionality.
