Description:

Russia, Moscow, ca. 1875. Wonderful solid silver Yad - a device designed so that pages of the Torah could be turned and read without human fingers ever touching the pages themselves. Hammered silver in multiple parts with man playing an accordion (Fiddler on the Roof certainly comes to mind) atop twin round orbs, tapered wand set with single green turquoise stone, pointer itself in the form of a human finger wearing a greenstone ring. Hallmarked with Moscow, 84, maker's mark and year. Quite a fine example! Size: 14.5" L (36.8 cm)

Provenance: private Florida USA collection of a distinguished doctor who traveled the world in the 1950's to 1980
