Description:

Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful triptych traveling icon formed by a main panel and 2 accompanying doors all shaped from 95% silver; a suspension loop on top enables its wear on a necklace as a pendant. Inside are images of the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child as well as 2 additional saints, each with their names inscribed in Cyrillic script above. The exterior surfaces of the door are engraved with elaborate cruciform motifs, and the verso bears a short religious inscription. Size (closed): 0.5" L x 2.125" W x 3.375" H (1.3 cm x 5.4 cm x 8.6 cm); silver quality: 95%; total weight: 153 grams.
