Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 19th century CE. One half of a cast brass icon with brilliant blue and white enamel. The icon depicts the prophet Micah, shown here as he usually is with a scroll, a wild beard, and a robe slung over one shoulder. Micah, a contemporary of Isaiah, made several important prophecies. Hinges to hold this icon - once part of traveling pair - are still on one side. Size: 4.55" W x 4.9" H (11.6 cm x 12.4 cm)

Provenance: private Massachusetts, USA collection of Kahlil and Jean Gibran. Kahlil Gibran (1922-2008, also known as Kahlil George Gibran) was a successful mid-20th century Magic Realist painter and sculptor.
