Eastern Europe, Russia, pre-Russian Revolution, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An incredibly striking dark wooden cross with ornate filigree 92% silver caps on each arm of the cross. Inlaid into each of these caps is a round, deep green tsavorite garnet. Attached at the center of the cross on one side is a silver applique of the distinctive double-headed eagle motif, the symbol of the coat of arms of the Russian Empire. On the other side, also in silver, is the three-barred cross, the most symbolic and popular shape in the Orthodox Church. Size: 3.55" W x 5.5" H (9 cm x 14 cm); each of the four garnets is: 0.15" (0.4 cm); silver is 92% pure; total weight is 58.8 grams
