Description:

Southeast Asia, Philippines, northern Luzon, Igorot tribe, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A fine currency piece in the shape of an ornate axe. The tang of the forged-iron blade is inserted into the top of a wooden handle which is reinforced with a tubular iron neck, and the handle has a petite protrusion along the upper-middle section. Axes like this example were used by hunters to take the heads of their enemies. Size: 11.75" L x 0.8" W x 23.75" H (29.8 cm x 2 cm x 60.3 cm); 23.125" H (58.7 cm) on included custom stand.
