Description:

Southeast Asia, Philippines, northern Luzon province, Ifugao culture, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A tall wooden shield of rectangular form with a convex central protrusion. The shield is carved from a single piece of wood with slender flanges projecting from each corner, a central protrusion with a drilled hole on one end, and an integral vertical handle on the verso. A pair of braided rattan bands decorates both the upper and lower ends of the shield. Deep amber patina has formed across the surfaces. Size: 12.375" W x 38.75" H (31.4 cm x 98.4 cm)
