South America, Peru, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful cup atop a slender pedestal and a domed foot, each component formed from high-grade (92%) silver. The base features eight raised triangular panels, the stem with a pair of petite discs beneath a quartet of flared petaloid flanges, and the nearly-spherical cup with a flared rim and delicate scalloped patterns. A pair of stylized birds is perched on curvilinear projections and has folded wings, conical beads, circular eyes, and bulbous top crests. Size: 2.8" W x 4.3" H (7.1 cm x 10.9 cm); quality of silver: 92%; total weight: 87.4 grams.
