Description:

Middle East/Western Asia, Persia/Iran, Qajar Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A gorgeous decorative steel model of a peacock, with a large plumed tail that rests on the ground and, fascinatingly, a human head with a tall, double-crested crown. Peacocks are powerful symbols in Iran. For example, the Naderi Throne, made during the reign of Fat'h Ali Shah Qajar (1772–1834) and used as recently as 1967 to crown Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, has decorative peacocks on it. Size: 19.75" L x 10" W x 18.35" H (50.2 cm x 25.4 cm x 46.6 cm)
