Middle East / Western Asia, Persia/Iran, Qajar Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful and sizable ceramic panel of an ovoid form with a flat base and curved peripheries. The front of the tile portrays the head of a regal king with a pointed mustache, one raised eyebrow, a flared collar, and a rounded headdress with a blue-and-yellow triangular frontal panel. The royal bust is surrounded with elaborate, colorful flowers with blue-and-red petals, some with yellow bodies, and all with thin green stalks. The exterior border is lined with wispy white-and-blue feathers atop a deep orange ground. A gorgeous example of Qajar portraiture! Lucite display stand for photography purposes only.
