Near East, Persia, ca. 19th century CE. A fine example of a forged iron recurve bow formed from two halves that are joined at the handle. Each half of the weapon features a prominent central bulge that sweeps back and terminates in a petite string hook, and the handle has flared rims that meet at the midsection. The recurve bow was a monumental innovation to the traditional straight bow. The curved form of the arms allows an archer to efficiently store and release more energy with every shot. Elegant linear and foliate motifs are etched on the outside of each arm. Size: 1.5" W x 30.25" H (3.8 cm x 76.8 cm).
