Near East, Iran/Persia, ca. 19th century CE. A charming bowl with a glazed surface and a bird motif. The bowl is glazed everywhere except its diminutive foot. The base color is a creamy beige glaze. The birds have been painted with thin black lines, shown looking back over their shoulder, with details of feathers and possibly of collars. Green cross-hatching fills in the background and colors the rim and sides in wide bands. Size: 9.5" W x 4" H (24.1 cm x 10.2 cm)
