Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Admiralty Islands, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An ornamental pectoral woven from vegetal fibers with boar's tusks at the center, and flat shell disc beads. Large seed pods dangle from the end also acting as a rattle. Boars are considered as fierce animals that symbolize wealth and prestige, the tusks were used as currency and dowry pieces, and could even act as compensation for disputes. Size: 20.75" L x 6.2" W (52.7 cm x 15.7 cm); 21.5" H (54.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010
