Pakistan, Swat Valley, ca. 19th century CE. An impressive silver and lapis lazuli choker style torc necklace, the u-shaped neckpiece comprised of twisted silver rope-pattern and smooth wires, flanked by a pair of flower-shaped appliques that are bezel set with large, round cabochon, lapis lazuli stones of breathtaking blue hues with lovely light and dark grey inclusions, the silver petals surrounding each stone finely detailed with incised linear motifs, the inner ring-like surround with granulation that is mirrored on the triangular attachments at either end of the 'flowers'. Finally, the termini assume a quasi-serpentine form with incised linear (perhaps abstract snake skin) patterns at the bases and a pointed stylized 'head' at the end of the hook-shaped termini. A mesmerizing example set in a glass-fronted, blue velvet lined, wooden shadow box frame to be appreciated as a work of art. It could, however, be removed from the frame and taken to a jeweler to be fitted with a suspension chain for wearing. - Condition: Expected minor tarnish and surface wear commensurate with age. Slight bending to bezels but stones appear to be secure. The necklace has been mounted in the shadow box; however, it could be removed from the frame and taken to a jeweler to be fitted with a suspension chain for wearing.
