Description:

Arctic, Native American, Inuit, ca. 19th century CE. A pair of hand-carved and smoothed tools made from the bones of marine mammals. The first is comb-like, with a drilled hole at the top and five long, round tines. The second has an interesting avian form when viewed from one side and is probably a harpoon head that would have had a sharp stone fitted into the slot on the narrow end. Fishing - in the summer from kayaks, and in the winter through holes in the ice - was an important source of food or the Inuit, and hand-made tools created during the long winter nights would have been incredibly helpful. Size of largest: 1.55" W x 3.6" H (3.9 cm x 9.1 cm)
