**First Time At Auction**

Near East/Western Asia, Turkey, Constantinople, Ottoman Empire, ca. 19th century CE. A forged-steel weapon known as a khanjar, a type of dagger that is used throughout the Middle East. The steel blade features a curved profile and a double-edged design with one spine narrowing to form a blade edge roughly two-thirds of the way down. The hand-carved wooden handle is topped with a fin-form iron pommel, and the curved brass sheath is adorned with densely etched foliate motifs. Size (w/ sheath): 2" W x 15" H (5.1 cm x 38.1 cm); (blade): 8.375" L (21.3 cm)

  • Condition: Brass guard on blade is removable. Separation to interior wooden sheath panels, with minor abrasions and indentations to sheath and pommel, softening to some finer details, and light encrustations on sheath and pommel. Nice patina throughout.
