Central Asia, Nepal, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A handsome example of a ghurra, a wooden churning rod-holder for turning milk into butter. The handle is in the shape of a bird's head and the surface is incised with repeated ovals, giving it an interesting texture. A thick, woven rope is attached to one end through a drilled hole. A beautiful, functional item. Size: 11.8" W x 4.4" H (30 cm x 11.2 cm)
