Description:

Central Asia, Nepal, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful brass relief panel, formed in repousse via a mold, depicting a male deity engaged in tantric yab-yum with his female consort - perhaps Chakrasamvara and Vajravarahi. The male deity sits with crossed legs atop an integral plinth and in front of a swirling corona, his consort in his lap with her arms wrapped above his head. The term "yab-yum" literally means "man-woman" and represents the peace-making process between spiritual polarities. The brass relief is covered in a thin layer of gilding (1.5% gold) and imbues the piece with an elegant presentation. Size: 3.875" W x 4.25" H (9.8 cm x 10.8 cm); quality of gilding: 1.5% gold.
