Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, ca. 19th century CE. A stone pestle with a gray green surface and a flared circular grinding base and a conical handle. The surface is smooth and was probably formed using the pecking and grinding method of shaping stone into tools which give it the polished surface. This pestle may have been used to pound berries, dried meat, and other ingredients for food like pemmican, or for medicinal purposes. Size: 2.75" W x 6.5" H (7 cm x 16.5 cm)
