Description:

Native American, Plains, possibly Lakota, Dakota, or Nakota, ca. late 19th to early 20th century. A hand held drum covered in deer or buffalo hide, with a beautiful gold and blue target design on the face. To the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota people, the drum is much more than a musical instrument; it also holds great cultural and symbolic power. The indigenous believe that the drum has a life of its own, as well as its own powerful spirit - and that it is the heartbeat of the Indian Nation. The drum carries the heartbeat of Mother Earth and calls the spirits and nations together. Size: 13" W x 4.75" H (33 cm x 12.1 cm)
